We got in on Friday and watched the Mets beat the Cubs in Game One of the three game series from the bar Poag Mahone's which I highly recommend. We heard another group of people cheering when we were, and found them out to be White Sox fans who apparently hate the Cubs more than Mets fans hate the Yankees if that's possible.

We then took a Chicago River/Lake Michigan tour with the unforgettable Capt. Ronna. After a long and very scenic trip, we got some deep-dish at Giordano's and ran into a Mets fan, Rich, who enlightened me to the second verse of "Meet The Mets".  I was skeptical of his rendition but he was right and I was wrong as you can see by clicking here. This song came into play later on the next day as I will soon describe.  Everywhere we went we saw Mets fans and were hi-fiving them all weekend.

We then went back to the Union League Club where we crashed in anticipation of our first game at Wrigley Field the next day.

On Saturday, we got up early and headed to Wrigleyville around 10 am. Game time was at 2:55 but we wanted to get in early since we had general admission bleacher seats. When we got off the train, we were taking pictures of Wrigley when Ruben Gotay and Jose Reyes hopped out of a cab. I never really get to see players up-close so I was pretty excited and snapped a few pictures of them. After that we were walking around Wrigley when we saw a small crowd gathering at a fence on the stadium.  I ran up and it was like seeing a fighter before his bout as Tom Glavine stood there signing autographs.  We hadn't even been to a game yet and our weekend was made. We weren't stopping there though.

We then went to Merkle's where ChicagoMetsFan.com had planned a Mets Meet-up.  We were the first ones there but soon after the two Kevin's showed up, one of which had a Metsblog t-shirt on. Metsblog and Cerrone got a lot of love this weekend by the way.  Shortly thereafter,  Mets fans were everywhere, including the owner Dave who treated us to Stoli O and Red Bull shots which perked us right up. Around 1:00 we headed into Wrigley.

It wasn't meant to be that day as the Mets went on to lose 2-6, but we had a great time nonetheless. We befriended the Cubs fans around us early so that when we became loud and annoying, they didn't mind as much. Quick note...why is it fair that Cubs fans can throw back a Mets home run, but a Mets fan gets kicked out when he throws back a Cubs home run?  Hypocrisy at its finest. Ask Chris Innace. All in all though, the Cubs fans were very cool in the right field  section of the bleachers. Not sure I can say the same for left field as there were fights a plenty. Also, Cubs fans react to a base hit the same as they react to a home run, with a standing ovation frenzy...don't get it. After the win, they all sang in unison some "Go Cubs Go" song which truly made me feel embarrassed for them.

After the game we were wandering aimlessly when the two Kevins showed up again offering us "a beer". Little did I know we were en route to a Metstravaganza!  Kevin M.'s apartment was on a corner adjacent to Murphy's Bleachers and Wrigley Field and had a balcony to boot. Unreal. They blasted the original, extended version of "Meet The Mets" from their insanely loud Bose speaker dock, out onto the street which incited sing-alongs all over.  There was much dancing in the streets, especially to a Backstreet Boys song that was possibly the funniest thing I have ever seen...video to come! Then, the Kevins found my party tickets for Sunday's game for Tom Glavine's 300th win attempt, so we spoke to some foreign customer service agents at United (not the friendly skies) and pushed our flights back to Monday.

On Sunday we spent much of the day recovering from the insanity that went down Saturday night. We went to Greektown and attempted to walk through Millenium Park but it was too damn hot so we went back to the air conditioned hotel. Around 5:00 we headed over to Wrigley again, this time to hopefully witness history.

I forgot to mention that we got hooked up with field level seats...could things get better? I was extremely nervous the whole game, especially when the Cubs rallied back to make it a 5-3 game. The Cubs fans were going ballistic, especially when Kerry Wood made his return after a 14 month hiatus.  You would have thought Cy Young had risen and was coming in from the bullpen the way the crowd reacted. Anyways, the Mets were beating up on the ball and when Billy Wagner came in, you knew it was going to happen. We found a bigger group of Mets fans and...well...click here to see what happened.

After Glavine got the win, we went over to the Mets dugout and hung out with about 200 constantly chanting Mets fans.  My shirt from imkeithhernandez.com got alot of compliments. After the rude Wrigley personnel kicked us out of the stadium, we went to the buses where we saw media personalities, and some of the players, the coolest of which were Marlon Anderson, and Ed Coleman. It was amazing, and wrapped up one of the most fun weekends I can ever remember...except for the 4 hour layover in DC early the next morning.

It was great to meet so many people, Met and Cub fans alike whom all contributed to our great time in Chicago.
