View Article  Cowher to Coach the Football Giants?
I know, I know, this is a MLB Blog with a focus on the Mets, but I was too psyched to not share this rumor from Yahoo! Sports.

Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis is now a television analyst, and on NFL Network he made a surprising prediction last week: He thinks his old coach, Bill Cowher, will coach the NY Giants next year.

One can only hope!  I don't dislike Coughlin, but I just can't see him propelling this team to a championship.  Cowher knows what needs to be done and has the clout to do it. Ok, now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

View Article  Easley on Leave & More on Bell
According to David Lennon at Newsday, Damion Easley was excused from last night's game because of a family illness, and he traveled home to Riverside, Calif. The Mets were unsure of when he might rejoin the team.

Willie Randolph as quoted by Lennon:

"Any time that happens, you want to make sure everything is OK before he comes back."

The above link also discusses Heath Bell's rebirth in San Diego.  Many people have sent me emails and written on other blogs wondering why the Mets traded him to the Padres because they are upset that he is flourishing there.  To me this is a waste of time.  Bell was a perennial "AAAA player" when with the Mets.  Although his talent was never in doubt, his ability to succeed in New York was, and he proved that. When the Mets called him up, Bell was inconsistent.  Either he would give up a ton of runs or pitch very well.  Then he would go back down to AAA and dominate.  Obviously, the combination of Bell and New York just wasn't a fit so people need to seriously let him go.

         **METS FUN FACT**

In 1966, the Mets chose not to select Reggie Jackson with the first overall pick. Instead, they took Steve Chilcott, a catcher who would never make it to the Major Leagues.
