View Article  Cubs Fight in Dugout
According to Dave van Dyck at the Chicago Tribune, Carlos Zambrano and catcher Michael Barrett got into a televised fight Friday in the Cubs dugout after the top of the fifth, an inning in which Zambrano allowed five runs on five hits and Barrett had a passed ball and a throwing error.

Here's a video until MLB pulls it down...here's another.

Great, I have both on my fantasy team, looks like I'll have to hand out some suspensions.

The guys at
Wrigleyville23 call Zambrano Mr. Met when they refer to him until he signs with the Cubs...funny stuff.

Off to a wine trip upstate, have a good weekend and Let's Go Mets!

Ballhype: hype it up!
View Article  Lost In Translation
Watching El Duque and Oliver Perez pitch this year has been compelling.  Listening to their post-game interviews has not been.

I don't blame them at all however for repeating the same three answers inlcuding, "I throw the ball, try to get the out" for a myriad of different questions. After the Mets win last night, reporters were asking El Duque numerous things including the complimentary but idiotic (paraphrased) "you were going right after Bonds, most pitchers are scared of him", and then stuck a mic in his face.  First of all, I don't even think that is a question, but Hernandez thought the reporter was asking whether he thought Bonds was scared of his pitches, consequentially throwing the pitcher into a defensive state of confusion.

As much as I love Q&A sessions, for players where there is a clear communication gap, I think the media needs to keep it simple. Even better although unrealistic, leave the questions to the spanish speaking reporters, then the monolingual media can translate the answers, and I guarantee we would walk away with much more insight then "I throw the ball, try to get the out."

         **METS FUN FACT**

In 1966, the Mets chose not to select Reggie Jackson with the first overall pick. Instead, they took Steve Chilcott, a catcher who would never make it to the Major Leagues.
