Yes, cheers to me for mocking my own name but this is in reference to the return of Roger Clemens after a drawn out, self-righteous period of indecision.Pardon my subjectivity but I, like many Mets fans, have a hatred of Clemens which was fueled by the whole Mike Piazza bat throwing incident. If Piazza is back healthy and Clemens is on the mound, the two might face off again at the end of June in the Bronx which I definitely want to see.
But this whole Clemens "surprise" where he papally addressed the fickle yankee faithful yesterday during the seventh inning stretch was not much of a surprise at all. Clemens was to decide between the Red Sox, Astros and Yankees and in the end decided to come back to the Bronx where his pompous attitude fits in the best...plus they were going to pay the most which any baseball purist can respect (eyes rolling).
Pettite and Clemens are reunited once again but this is a different Yankees team than the ones they shared so many successes with and it will remain to be seen whether their efforts can resurrect this struggling squad.
He is a well deserving first ballot Hall of Famer and his stats speak for themselves, but the man behind "The Rocket" is not one who I will ever cheer for.
I know that giving attention to his return is hypocritical to the fact that I don't want anything to do with the overwhelming media coverage it has attracted, but I wanted to acknowledge my dislike for the man who is right at home once again.
Clemens has nothing more to prove, but I suppose the money he has attained for just a few starts this year is well worth the relocation. The "House that Ruth Built" is being knocked down and replaced by another George's dream home, so for a historic franchise who is now choosing to tear down their living museum, this throwing around of money really came as no surprise at all.
You have GOT to hear the over-reaction of Yankees commentator Suzyn Waldman when she learned of Roger's return. (Thanks to Toasty Joe for the link)
