According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Jose Reyes was almost included in the Dec. 11, 2001 trade for Roberto Alomar.

Sherman writes:

"The Indians liked Reyes, but simply did not have enough information from their South Atlantic League scouts to make an 18-year-old with just two pro seasons the key player in the deal rather than Alex Escobar."

Not sure how Mets brass didn't screw that one up too back then. I think that would have been worse than the Kazmir flub. I can't even imagine if that had happened but it shows how easily it can.
