At his blog for ESPN, Buster Olney reports the details of his conversation with Padres GM Kevin Towers about the Mets' signing of Chan Ho Park.

Olney says that the Padres actually offered Park $1 million but that he signed with New York, probably because he has a better chance of being part of their rotation.

Park agreed to a one-year contract with the Mets on Friday worth $600,000.

Does that mean Park has less respect for the Mets' rotation?

It's good to see though that the $$ wasn't the only reason for him to come to NY,
even though $600K is nothing to shake a bat at.

If money isn't his motivation to be in NY, this reaffirms that he will be a fighter in spring training to get a spot in the mystery that is the starting rotation, so let's see what he can do.
