The OC Register is reporting that the Orange County Flyers hired Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter as
their manager for the 2008 season.
Carter is taking over for former MLB player, Garry Templeteon.
The Flyers are members of the Golden Baseball League which I hadn't heard of until now.
It still irks me that Carter never landed a job with the Mets, but Rickey Henderson could. What gives?

I guess Templeton is startin' since he's departin'. I thought Carter didn't take a managing gig in the Mets lower minors because he didn't want to ride the buses, I guess something's changed.

He was very offended that the Mets didn't offer him a base coach position. He did a great job at St Lucie and declined a spot at Binghamton which he should have just taken. I guarantee he'd find himself at Shea/Citi soon after but whatever. Not sure how the Flyers were a better situation, but I do know that OC is a nicer climate than Upstate New York.

**METS FUN FACT** In 1966, the Mets chose not to select Reggie Jackson with the first overall pick. Instead, they took Steve Chilcott, a catcher who would never make it to the Major Leagues. Most Viewed Posts
