On April 29, 1965, colorful Mets broadcaster Lindsay Nelson delivered the play-by-play of a game at the Astrodome from a hanging gondola, located 208 feet above the second base bag. Nelson, known for his loud sport coats would win the Hall Of Fame's prestigious Ford C. Frick Award in 1988.

On June 15, 1983, the Mets acquired Keith Hernandez from the Cardinals for pitchers Neil Allen, and Rick Ownbey.  The onetime MVP and perennial Gold Glover would lead the Mets to their second championship 3 years later.

On September 4, 1985, Gary Carter hit two home runs in a 9-2 win over San Diego, giving him a record-tying five over the last two games. Carter, who had hit three home runs in an 8-3 win over the Padres the previous day, became only the 13th player to hit 5 homers in 2 games.

On January 16, 1986, the Mets acquired 2B Tim Teufel and a minor leaguer from Minnesota for three minor leaguers: outfielder Billy Beane, Joe Klink and Bill Lantham.  Teufel would then platoon with Wally Backman during their championship run that season.
