View Article  Quotes From Keith!
We will now be devoting a whole section here at Mets Heads to the quotes and misquotes of Keith "Mex" Hernandez.

Keith was my favorite Met when he played, but who knew he would continue to entertain long after his playing career was over.

We welcome and encourage your entries which can include in-game commentary, pre and post game banter, and any jargon that Keith chooses to spit for that matter. The more outrageous the better, and you can find them all in our new section "Keithisms".

Check out the comments section for more or post your own!

I'll start with perhaps the most famous one in recent history, sorry Keith but I had to do it:

"Who is the girl in the dugout, with the long hair? What's going on here? You have got to be kidding me. Only player personnel in the dugout."

"I won't say women belong in the kitchen, but they don't belong in the dugout. You know I am only teasing. I love you gals out there, always have."

"I stand by those statements. I think this is a man's game and I feel very strongly about it. And if anybody thinks when I made that comment about women being in the kitchen, and takes it seriously, well, get a sense of humor."

On Ebay, Keith Hernandez is seen next to a car that is paired with a #17 jersey. I'm not sure if it was his car, but it is interesting just the same.  Is he wearing pants?

View Article  Keith Trivia
Fancy yourself a Keith Hernandez know it all? Well, Mets Walkoffs posted some great trivia regarding the man, the myth, the legend, including the following:

What Hall of Famer was the first pitcher to strike Keith Hernandez out three times in one game?

View Article  If Vizquel, Why Not Keith?
Lately, I have been hearing commentators saying that Omar Vizquel is a lock for the Hall Of Fame. A lock?  True, he is the Ozzie Smith of this generation defensively, but how can they be so assuming when someone like Keith Hernandez has never been elected.

It seems that if players stick around long enough, such as Craig Biggio who has announced he is retiring after this season after reaching the 3,000 hit plateau, they become "locks" for the hall. As they say, it's not the Hall Of Very Good. I'm not saying Vizquel absolutely doesn't belong there, but I am on the fence about him despite his wizardry at shortstop.

Other than stolen bases which Omar outnumbers Keith by roughly four times his amount, Keith was clearly better offensively. Keith was clutch. The MVP in 1979, Keith led the Mets in batting average from 1984-1986.  He also led them in on base percentage during that time. From 1983-1986, he led the team in walks as well and was a 5 time All-Star over his career. He finished with a .296 career batting average and 162 home runs.

Vizquel was a 3 time All-Star.  He has belted a meager 75 home runs and is currently batting .274 over his career.

Both have decent offensive numbers, but not great. Therefore, you have to think that either Vizquel or Keith would be elected based on their defensive numbers. Keith was, and Vizquel still is, amazing defensively. Keith won 11 straight Gold Glove Awards. Omar has also won 11, but not consecutively.

Why then is Vizquel a lock and Keith was passed over?  I'm just saying it bothers me is all.  If the San Antonio Coyote is going to beat Mr. Met in Mascot Hall Of Fame voting, then I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this potential injustice as well.

View Article  Keith Wins Mustache Award
The American Mustache Institute (which I had no idea even existed), declared Keith Hernandez the winner of its vote for the Top Sports Mustache of All Time.

Thanks in part to Metsblog's write-in campaign of course because they left him off the ballot!

This is the proudest day of my life as ImKeithHernandez.com has named me Fan Of The Month!

Very huge honor to say the least.  I want to thank all the little people who made this possible.

View Article  Ichiro Funnier Than Keith?
Here on the east coast I don't read a lot about Seattle Mariners' OF Ichiro Suzuki but he may be funnier than our own Keith Hernandez!

His latest quote is from the other day:

“To tell the truth, I’m not excited to go to Cleveland, but we have to,” Ichiro said through an interpreter. “If I ever saw myself saying I’m excited going to Cleveland, I’d punch myself in the face, because I’m lying.”

Here are some more quotes from Ichiro, and here are some more.

View Article  Keith, Gary, Ron Cartoon
Original Post 3/25...

During today's loss to the Astros, Keith Hernandez and Gary Cohen were discussing some type of cartoon that may be a parody of the two plus fellow commentator Ron Darling.  One can only imagine what this might mean but Cohen said that the mystery will be revealed by Opening Day.

Stay tuned for an update on this breaking news.

Update...

Here's a link to one, here's another..definitely prefer the moustache one. There's another one out there where the 3 mesh together, kind of disturbing.  Go to SNY for all these and perhaps future commercial spots.

         **METS FUN FACT**

In 1966, the Mets chose not to select Reggie Jackson with the first overall pick. Instead, they took Steve Chilcott, a catcher who would never make it to the Major Leagues.
